Terminalia Cattapa L.

The Leaves of the tree Terminalia Cattapa L. are used for a long time in the aquaristik by many breeders of tropical aquarium fishes in Asia, to keep their fish healthy.

The Leaves take a antiseptic effect.                                          

They are used to tread  fungus and bakteriell diseases, and for the “whole in the had” disease of cichlids.

The leaves give their active substances off to the water without to damage the immune system of the fish, which often is the case by the use of medicines. In the opposite, there are also different positive effects, stress will become obtained, the mucous membrane protected and the against defense protection of the animals will be increased.

Plecos like to eat the leaves, that also has a positiv effect on the stomach and  Intestine of the animals.

You can put the leaves directly in the aquarium, where their active substances deliver to the water, there by the  water gets colored brown as we know it from black water rivers. For the treatment of sick fish only dried sheets are used. During the treatment the pH can fall from 7 on a pH under 6 to lower .

Other sources indicate present are:                        

Violaxanthin, Lutein and Zeaxanthin, whilst there are also flavonoids present such as quercetin and kamferol.  The leaves contain also tannins (s.a. punicalin, punicalagin and tercatein).

You can receive the leaves of Terminalia Cattapa L. packed in neutral, transparent plastic bags each 10 or 15 pieces.
